PLAY THE ADVANTAGE

Well, there’s been all of diddly going on since the World Cup in the referee news world (magical world that it is), and that’s been fine by me. 60-odd games in a row – most accompanied by margaritas – and I needed the break.

But now that I’ve had a chance to stretch my legs, I’m starting to miss my boys. But at least we have MLS, right?

Right?

Here are the MLS referees for this week. The excellent Mark Geiger – whom I may or may not have fallen a little in love with during the World Cup – takes Real Salt Lake v. New York Red Bulls.

He’s accompanied on the line by female assistant referee Felisha Mariscal.

Ricardo Salazar will officiate Chivas USA v. FC Dallas. Salazar was here in the Bay Area last weekend, refereeing the exhibition between Real Madrid and Inter Milan. I was not able to go, sadly, but I got updates from pitchside, which were variations on “This ref sucks!”.

I looked him up and the second Google search under his name is:

Ricardo Salazar worst ref ever.

So, yeah. There’s that.
