World Cup Appointments: Tuesday, June 30

I appreciate the fact that FIFA has seen fit to give Switzerland two of my favorite referees of late: Bjorn Kuipers and now Sweden’s Jonas Eriksson (above).
Djamel Haimoudi gets the Belgium v USA game, which I find a little bit surprising.
The quarterfinal appointments should be quite interesting…
Referee: Jonas Eriksson (SWE)
Assistant Referee 1: Mathias Klasenius (SWE)
Assistant Referee 2: Daniel Warnmark (SWE)
Fourth Official: Svein Oddvar Moen (NOR)
Referee: Djamel Haimoudi (ALG)
Assistant Referee 1: Redouane Achik (MAR)
Assistant Referee 2: Abdelhak Etchiali (ALG)
Fourth Official: Norbert Hauata (TAH)

I’ve read in a Dutch newspaper that USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann was not satisfied with the assignment of the Algerian referee Djamel Haimoudi for two reasons:
1. USA has beaten Algeria during the 2010 World Cup, so that could be a reason to take revenge.
2. Haimoudy is able to speak French with the Belgian players and not with his players.

Totally agree.
Also, according to Klinsmann logic, no referee from a country you’ve ever beaten can be assigned…
