World Cup Referees: Monday, June 16

The big game Monday is undoubtedly the Clash of the Group G Titans: Germany and Portugal. These two are expected to battle it out for supremacy in the group, with Germany an early favorite to reach the final. In yet another nod to how highly FIFA thinks of him, Milorad Mazic has been given this game.
Mazic has only been refereeing at the highest levels for a couple of years, but already he’s something of a god. If he does well here, you can expect to see him in even more important matches going forward.
Ghana v. USA is always a spirited and entertaining match, and expectations for this one are high. The excellent Swede, Jonas Eriksson, takes this one.

Wow. Mazic has only been in the Elite Category for about 12 months, and now he gets a WC match between two giants of world football. What a monumental rise! Expected Webb for this game, but now it seems he’s penciled in for Brazil – Mexico on Tuesday.
Eriksson gets a more than decent game, expect a very open match. Vera gets a solid game as well.
Good luck to all!

I also half expected Webb. It’s been clear through the appointments who Massimo Busacca favors…
