FA Cup Referees, February 24

dailymail.co.uk

Here are the referees for the remaining FA cup fifth round fixtures, to be played Monday, February 24. This includes the rescheduled Sheffield Wednesday v. Charlton match, which was postponed due to rain.

Mark Clattenburg, who was the referee for the original match and made the decision to postpone, is in charge Monday, as well. Sadly, this most assuredly means he will not be refereeing a Champions League match this week, as he would need to travel on Sunday or Monday. It probably rules him out of Europa on Thursday, but there’s still a possibility. This is a shame, because I feel like Clatts is the best English referee at the moment, and would have liked to have seen him in the CL.

I do find it odd he’s refereeing a Monday match, having had a Saturday match this week. Normally, referees need two days of recovery time between matches. Assuming he takes a game next weekend as well, that’s a minimum of three games in a seven or eight day period. Dude’s a machine, but still…
