Official: List of Remaining Refereeing Teams

It is now official. Here are the remaining refereeing teams for the 2014 World Cup.
The next semifinal, third place playoff and final referee will come from this list.
- Ravshan Irmatov (UZB)
- Yuichi Nishimura (JPN)
- Djamel Haimoudi (ALG)
- Noumandiez Doue (CIV)
- Marco Rodriguez (MEX)
- Mark Geiger (USA)
- Enrique Osses (CHI)
- Carlos Vera (ECU)
- Sandro Ricci (BRA)
- Cuneyt Cakir (TUR)
- Jonas Eriksson (SWE)
- Pedro Proenca (POR)
- Nicola Rizzoli (ITA)
- Carlos Velasco Carballo (ESP)
- Howard Webb (ENG)
The support teams and fourth officials will also come from this list, so don’t assume that just because a guy is here, he’s a candidate for the final.
I don’t even know what to say about the inclusion of Spaniard Carlos Velasco Carballo (above)…

Considering the very public “behind-the-scenes” war going on between the Brazilian delegation and FIFA officials, Velasco Carballo is also a very public slap in the face by FIFA. That’s all there is. This guy should be banned from further international officiating.
You guys can “Google translate” the following news story from a leading daily in Portuguese for further details:

Interesting stuff.
My only caution is that I’ve seen some crazy stuff in papers of late. 🙂

A war? That’s surprising…after all, more or less everyone and their dog accuses the Fifa to have done whatever possible to allow Brazil to succeed as long as possible in the tournament.

I appreciate this fact.
However, it is not shared by Brazilian media. The atmosphere here among the locals (press, fans and the team as well) is that refs are invested in making up for Nishimura’s blunder…
I, particularly, think Webb did a great job in BRA-CHI. But I am about the only Brazilian who think so.

Btw, the Fifa has decided to not punish Zuniga further and against the request to cancel Silva’s card (honestly, I don’t get why this one was appealed in the first place).

Actually, what FIFA said is that they cannot take action because CVC saw the Zuniga foul, and said in his report he decided not to take action.
Nothing they can do.
Another reason it’s so bizarre to see him on the final list…

In any case, I am okay with it…either they punish all players who did a similar dangerous foul during this game now (and then Brazil would have to play with half of its squad), or they don’t touch the decision. It would be wrong to use Zuniga as the fall guy for an all around bad situation. He will have to life with the hate he gets now for the rest of his life.

So on Fifa WC website, they said to have referees for all 4 matches already and the rest start departing this Monday. If that’s so they couldn’t possibly choose referee from any of the 4 countries right? logically speaking….

Why is Ricci on the list and Kuipers off? I mean, i understand no Kuipers, with Ned in the semi, but wouldnt the same go for Ricci?

Host country referees are retained, apparently.

Brazil appealed for Tiago Silva and against Zuniga just to appease national media and to address public outcry on the ground.
They knew neither would fly.
But they made the point of “no more bias to balance Nishimura’s disaster.”
Tiago’s YC was Ok. A missed YC for Zuniga is not a big deal either. But CVC’s mess is not Ok. This is the point BRA is trying to make.
