Red Card or Not: Williams and South Korea v. Belgium
Steven Defour’s straight red card was the typical “miss the ball, get the player with your studs” challenge we’ve seen punished over and over in this World Cup.
Though there was a moment when it looked like Australian referee Ben Williams wouldn’t actually send the Belgian off, he produced the card in short order.
At least the referees are calling this consistently.
What do you think: Red card or not?

“The only true red card’… And that’s why you’re not there, Alex.
Glad you’re not. Hate seeing guys get hurt, and that’s what your emotional approach would cause.

The correct decision was made. Stamping in football on another player is violent conduct, which incurs an automatic red card. This means that the ref was spot on in his judgement.
